STANLEY

A surprise snowy-morning arrival, Stanley was hand-raised by staff after being rejected by his first-time mom. Curious, playful, and always greeting caregivers with a cheerful ‘baa,’ he grew into a confident young sheep. Lambert became his best bud, guiding him through life at the rescue. Now, Stanley carries on with the same curiosity and playful spirit they shared—still keeping a watchful eye on the flock and holding out hope that he can grab a bite of the emus’ salads.

Stanley arrived as a complete surprise. On a snowy morning, our team discovered that Vivian had given birth to a lamb—something we didn’t expect at all. Olive and Vivian hadn’t been at the rescue long, and we were unaware that either sheep was pregnant when they arrived.

Although Vivian is an excellent sheep, first-time motherhood didn’t come easily, and she rejected Stanley. As a result, he was hand-raised by our dedicated staff, forming close bonds with his caretakers from the very beginning.

Stanley has been a joy to watch grow. He’s curious, playful, and never misses a chance to greet his caregivers with an enthusiastic “baa.” He’s also known for a bit of mischief—especially when it comes to trying to sneak bites of the emus’ salads whenever the opportunity arises.

Now fully grown, Stanley has settled beautifully into the flock. Though Lambert is no longer by his side, Stanley carries forward the spirit of their special bond, remaining curious, playful, and a steadfast presence among the flock.

THEY GROW SO FAST

Though his arrival was a surprise, we can’t imagine the flock without Stanley.

Though not his biological father, Lambert stepped right into the role of fatherhood when Vivian gave birth to Stanley.

Already best buds, Stanley and Lambert became even closer after both endured health issues related to their neutering procedures—reassuring each other with gentle neck hugs and constant companionship during recovery.

Though often thought of simply as farm animals, sheep are highly social, intelligent herd animals known for strong bonds, excellent memory, and gentle temperaments. They thrive in the company of others and rely on their flock for safety and communication. Learn more about sheep and other domestic animals in our Creature Catalog.
