OLIVE & VIVIAN
Olive and Vivian are wonderful examples of the different types of sheep you might encounter. Vivian is a hair sheep, meaning she naturally sheds her coat each year. Olive is a wool sheep, growing the thick fleece that requires seasonal shearing.
Olive and Vivian joined the rescue shortly after Lambert arrived. At the time, we had no other sheep, so these two girls were brought in to be his companions and help create a small flock.
What we didn’t know then was that both Olive and Vivian were already expecting.
Olive
Vivian
In January of 2025, just after a light snowfall, we arrived at the rescue to find a surprise in the pasture — a tiny lamb. Vivian had given birth overnight to a little boy we named Stanley.
Not long after, Olive welcomed her own lamb, Criss, making it a season full of unexpected new life.
As a first-time mother, Vivian struggled a bit with motherhood, and Stanley needed some extra help early on. He was hand-reared by the rescue team until he was strong and independent enough to safely return to the flock. Today, he lives happily among the other sheep where he belongs.
Now fully grown, Stanley has settled beautifully into the flock. Though Lambert is no longer by his side, Stanley carries forward the spirit of their special bond, remaining curious, playful, and a steadfast presence among the flock.
WINTER SURPRISE
Their story is a reminder that in rescue work, surprises are never far away — and sometimes those surprises arrive on four tiny legs.
Since their arrival at CWR, Olive and Vivian have become beloved fixtures of the flock. Both have friendly, easygoing personalities and are often among the first to greet caregivers in the pasture, bringing a calm and gentle presence to the rescue.
We lost sweet Criss at nine months old following complications from neutering surgery. He will always be remembered as part beloved member of our flock.
Though often thought of simply as farm animals, sheep are highly social, intelligent herd animals known for strong bonds, excellent memory, and gentle temperaments. They thrive in the company of others and rely on their flock for safety and communication. Learn more about sheep and other domestic animals in our Creature Catalog.
